AUBURN, Ala. – University of Virginia fourth-year All-American Mirjana Bosevska (Skopje, Macedonia/Trinity Prep) finished seventh in the preliminaries of the 400 individual medley Friday (March 21) at the 2003 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, which are being held at Auburn’s James E. Martin Aquatics Center. With her performance, Bosevska advanced to tonight’s championship finals.
Bosevska, a three-time first-team All-American in the 400 individual medley, placed seventh in the prelims with a time of 4:13.35 to advance to this evening’s championship final.
Fourth-year Cara Lane (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) and third-year Amy Baly (Atlanta, Ga./Marist School) finished ninth and 15th, respectively, in the 400 I.M. and will compete in the consolation final. Lane was ninth in the preliminaries with a time of 4:15.01, while Baly took 15th in 4:17.04.
First-year Brielle White (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside School) also advanced to the evening competition with her 10th-place performance in the 100 backstroke. White clocked a time of 54.48 which was good enough to qualify for the consolation finals.
The Cavaliers also had two swimmers compete in the 400 I.M. who did not advance to the finals session. First-year Katie Gordon (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep) was 20th in the prelims with a time of 4:18.17, while second-year Kate Wrenshall (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bolles School) placed 26th (4:20.20).
In the 100 butterfly, third-year Cynthia Roller (Herndon, Va./Herndon) was 32nd with a time of 54.97 seconds and second-year Andrea Georoff (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep) posted a time of 57.00 to finish 51st.
Third-year Carlie Dykehouse (Gainesville, Fla./Trinity Prep) and first-year Rachael Burke (Bethesda, Md./Good Counsel) swam in the 200 freestyle for the Cavaliers. Dykehouse was 24th (1:48.86), while Burke tied for 41st (1:49.98).
The second of three final sessions for the 2003 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships begins tonight at 7:00 p.m. Central Time. Friday’s preliminary events begin at 11:00 a.m. Central Time.
