Men’s Golf Stands Ninth After Second Round at Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Virginia men’s golf team moved up five spots to stand ninth after the second round of the Furman Intercollegiate on Saturday.

Virginia Tech moved one step closer to becoming the first team to win three consecutive FI titlesby firing a 289 to remain one stroke ahead of the host Paladins, with a two-round total of 579.Virginia carded a 295 on the day for a 601 (+25) overall.

Tech’s Chris McKeel leads the field with a seven-under 137, five strokes ahead of teammate and defending champion Brendon DeJonge and Furman’s Rob Langley.

Freshman Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) continues to pace UVa , tying for sixth with at even par 144. Freshman Eamonn McLoughlin (Amityville, N.Y.) follows with a 149 (+5), while senior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.) shot a 153 (+9). Junior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) and sophomore Craig Cook-Stevenson (Sutton-Coldfield, England) are tied with a 158 (+14) each.

The final round of the Intercollegiate is set to begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday, March 23 at the Furman Golf Course.
