Two Cavaliers were recognized by national organizations for their play last week in which Virginia defeated #9 UNC on the road. Tri-captain Tiffany Schummer was named an honorable mention selection for National Player of the Week by insidelacrosse.com and Caitlin Banks was selected to the womenslacrosse.com honor roll. The honor is the first for both of them in 2003.
Against UNC, Schummer had two draw controls, two caused turnovers, and four ground balls as she directed a defense that held the Heels to two goals less than their season average.
Banks scored two second-half goals, caused two turnovers, had one draw control, and picked up four ground balls as Virginia outscored the Tar Heels 4-3 in the second half.
