The University of Virginia’s women’s relay teams took second in the 4x1500m relay and fourth in the sprint medley relay to highlight action in the first day of the Raleigh Relays. The distance squad finished in a time of 18:18.74 while the sprint medley team took fourth with a time of 4:03.78. Virginia’s Eliese Mitchell, the reigning ACC champion in the discus, took sixth overall in the shotput with a toss of 14.56m. USA National Champion Kiamesha Otey qualified for the finals of the 100m dash, running 11.91 in the prelims, the fifth fastest time of the day. Action continues tomorrow, Saturday, March 29 at N. C. State.
Assistant Coach Dana Coons finished third in the 5K with a time of 16:29.26, just ahead of Virginia’s Ellen Dwyer, who took 10th in a time 16:52.33. Jane Maxwell was eighth overall in the 10K with a 35:12.25. Natalie Randolph tied for seventh in the 400 hurdles, just missing the 60-second barrier with a 1:00.72.
On the men’s side, Tim Bilmanis took ninth in the discus with a throw of 47.36m (155′ 04″).
