Virginia’s Dawn Cleary raced past the rest of the field and took the steeplechase title at the Raleigh Relays, covering the 3K in 10:18.87. The Virginia record holder outpaced the second place finisher by three seconds. Joining Cleary atop the winners’ stand was McGavock Dunbar, who won the 800m run in a time of 1:51.66. Kiamesha Otey also finished in the medals, taking third in the 100m dash with a sprint of 11.78. Brian Kollar, an All-American in the javelin, was third in that event with a 67.66m. The women’s 4x200m relay team just missed a medal, taking fourth with a 1:36.72.
Other top finishers for the Cavaliers included Sharon O’Connor in the 800 and the 4x100m relay team, both of which took fifth. Eliese Mitchell, the school record holder in the hammer throw, took seventh in that event.
