CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 22 ranked Virginia women’s tennis team dropped their second match of the weekend to a top-25 team, falling 5-2 Sunday to No. 25 Clemson at Boar’s Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers are now 11-6 on the season, 1-2 in the ACC.

Clemson took an early lead by sweeping all three doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. In singles play, the Cavaliers could only win two of the six matches. Four-year Jennifer Tuchband (Millburn, N.J.) won at No. 2 singles, her 24th singles win of the year. That mark is a new Cavalier fourth-year record for singles wins in a season. First-year Kristen James (Clifton, Va.) won at No. 3 singles for the other Virginia win.

“In the ACC, there are so many strong teams that every match will be a battle like today,” stated Virginia head coach Phil Rogers. “This match could have gone either way. When you play top-25 teams, you almost need to play perfect tennis to get a win.”

Virginia take on No. 1 Duke and No. 11 North Carolina on the road next weekend.
