GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia fourth-year All-American swimmer Mirjana Bosevska (Skopje, Macedonia/Trinity Prep) is one of four student-athletes to receive a 2003 Weaver-James-Corrigan Honorary Award as announced by Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford. The Honorary Award recipients are being recognized for their outstanding performance both in athletic competition, as well as in the classroom throughout their collegiate careers, and who intend to compete in their respective sports at the Olympic or professional level.
Bosevska is a 15-time All-American for the Cavaliers, including eight first-team certificates. She was the ACC Swimmer of the Year in 2002, as well as the 2002 ACC Meet MVP. Bosevska became the first UVa swimmer to win four consecutive ACC titles in the same event when she won the 400 individual medley at the 2003 ACC Championships.
Bosevska was named the 2002 Macedonian Women’s Athlete of the Year as voted by the Macedonian Federation of Sport. The award is the most prestigious honor given by the Macedonian Olympic Committee. She is a two-time Olympian for her native Macedonia. Bosevska competed in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
Bosevska was one of 11 Cavaliers named to the ACC’s 50th Anniversary Women’s Swimming and Diving Team, which was announced in August of 2002. Bosevska holds the school and ACC records in the 400 I.M. (4:09.75) and 200 I.M. (1:59.31). She is also a member of the Cavaliers’ school record setting 800 free relay (7:15.75).
Duke’s Kevin Cassese, Florida State’s Matthew Lynch, and North Carolina’s David Crawford joined Bosevska in earning Weaver-James-Corrigan Honorary Awards. Nineteen ACC scholar-athletes are recipients of 2003 Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarships.
