Virginia’s Raab Named To USA Roster For Duel In The Pool

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – University of Virginia second-year swimmer Michael Raab (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) has been named to the USA’s roster for the Duel in the Pool Meet vs. Australia which will take place Sunday, April 6 at Indiana University Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI. Raab earned a spot on Team USA’s roster by finishing second in the 200-meter butterfly Wednesday (April 2) in the 2003 ConocoPhillips Spring National Swimming Championships which are also being held at Indiana University Natatorium.

Raab, who is coming off a third-place performance in the 200-yard butterfly with a school record time of 1:42.84 at the NCAA Championships on March 29, placed second in the 200-meter fly at the ConocoPhillips Spring National Championships Wednesday (April 2) with a time of 1:58.56. Raab was also second in the prelims of the 200 fly with a time of 1:58.87.

Raab is the second swimmer with UVa connections to make the USA Team roster. Virginia volunteer assistant coach Ed Moses (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) will also swim on Team USA.

Moses won the 200-meter breaststroke title at the Spring Nationals Wednesday evening with an impressive time of 2:11.22, three seconds faster than the runner-up. Moses, who also posted the top time in the prelims (2:14.38), was on world record pace through 150-meters, but fell 1.25 seconds shy of the world mark.

Virginia first-year Fran Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa./Germantown Academy) is also competing at the ConocoPhillips Spring Nationals. Crippen, the 2003 ACC Swimmer and Rookie of the Year, will swim the 400 and 1500-meter freestyles with an eye on earning a spot on the USA’s roster for the Duel in the Pool.
