CHARLOTTESVILLE – University of Virginia men’s head basketball coach Pete Gillen announced Tuesday (April 15) that guard Jermaine Harper is leaving the Virginia program and plans to transfer to another school. Harper has asked for and will receive his immediate release. He plans to remain at Virginia through the end of the spring semester.
“I wish Jermaine the best in his future endeavors,” Gillen said.
Harper, a 6-3 sophomore from Gardena, Calif., played in 27 games for the Cavaliers during the 2002-03 season and started two. He averaged 3.9 points, 1.4 rebounds and 13.4 minutes played a game.
As a freshman during the 2001-02 season, Harper played in 29 games and started three. He averaged 5.8 points, 1.6 rebounds and 17.2 minutes of playing time a game.
