Four Cavaliers Named to All-Conference Women’s Lacrosse Team

The University of Virginia women’s lacrosse team was honored with four selections to the All-Conference team as announced at the championships banquet held tonight in Charlottesville. Team captains Lauren Aumiller, Lauri Kenis, and Tiffany Schummer were all named to the team, along with second-year Amy Appelt. Appelt was the ACC’s Rookie of the Year in 2002 while Aumiller and Schummer were both on the team in 2002 as well.

Aumiller leads the nation in scoring with 65 points and ranks 5th nationally in goals-per-game. A member of the ACC’s 50th Anniversary Team, she also ranks 5th nationally in assists, 8th nationally in draw controls , and she is the only player in the nation with 40+ goals and 20+ assists. Aumiller’s school record 285 points ranks 17th all-time in scoring in Division I history with 197 goals and 88 assists. Her 197 goals ranks 24th all-time in Division I and she is one of only 6 people in DI to have 190+ goals and 85+ assists. In 2003 she also ranks 3rd on team in caused turnovers and ground balls, while ranking 6th in UVA history with 84 caused turnovers. She has scored in 35 consecutive games (UVA record) and tied 8-year old school record with 7 assists vs George Mason. Aumiller also holds UVA career records in draw controls (183) and hat tricks (38). She has controlled 40+ draws for the fourth consecutive season and is a 2003 Tewaaraton nominee after being a Tewaaraton finalist in 2002. This is her third consecutive selection to the All-Conference team.

Schummer, a team captain, leads team in caused turnovers and ground balls. She was a womenslacrosse.com national honor roll of the week selection in 2003 (Mar 24). Schummer ranks 3rd in Virginia history with 102 caused turnovers and in 2003 she ranks 3rd on team in draw controls. Schummer is only player in the ACC with 25+ caused turnovers , 40+ ground balls, and 20+ draw controls. Competing as a graduate student in 2003, she is a 2003 Tewaaraton nominee after being a Tewaaraton finalist in 2002. Schummer was an All-Conference selection in 2002.

Appelt, the ACC and National Rookie of the Year in 2002, ranks 3rd on team and 5th nationally with 53 points. She has scored in every game in college career (33 consecutive games), the second longest streak in Virginia history. In 2003, she became fastest Cavalier to 100 points (25th game of career).

Kenis, a team captain in 2003 who is competing as a graduate student, ranks 2nd on team in ground balls and caused turnovers. She ranks 5th all-time at Virginia with 87 caused turnovers and leads the ACC in caused turnover/turnover ratio. This is her second selection to the All-Conference team after being so named in 2001 and redshirting the 2002 season. Kenis was also a member of the All-Tournament team in 2001.
