April 17, 2003

Friday April 11, 2003 – I woke up this morning at about 9:30 and did my usual morning routine. I ate a bowl of Raisin Bran, watched a little TV until about noon, then I got up and got dressed for practice. Because we have a meet tomorrow, practice was fairly easy today. We just warmed up with stretches and practiced a few handoffs for the 4×100 relay. After practice I went home, showered, and took a nap for a couple of hours before starting some homework. I must say that the day was all in all pretty relaxed. I did not want to do too much before competition because I wanted to make sure that I was fresh so I would be at my best. I went to sleep around 11:30 Friday night.

Saturday, April 12, 2003 – I had to wake up this morning at 8 because I had to be at the track at 9 for the first event of my day, the long jump, which started at 10. There were 3 flights of jumpers so we didn’t actually get started until about 11:30. I ended up winning the long jump with a jump of 20’4. During the final round of the long jump we ran the 4×100 relay, we ended up winning that as well. After the relay and the long jump I ran the 100 which I posted a season best (11.57), a little later on in the day I ran the 200 which I again posted a season best running 23.57. A number of other good things that happened for the woman’s team this weekend included Caroline Harvey placing third in the 100 and fourth in the 200, with a personal bests in both events. Natalie Randolph also posted a personal best in the 400 hurdles, while Carielle Doe posted a personal best in the 200 meters. Vika Osipienko also took first place in the pole vault. Our coach was very happy with the performances for the weekend.

Monday, April 14, 2003 – Being that the weekend was pretty taxing, practice was fairly easy. It was one of those practices that helps you to recover and get your legs back from the weekend. The part of the day that required most of my energy, what little I had, was probably lifting. As for the rest of the week….only Randy knows.

[note: Otey was named ACC Track & Field Performer of the Week following her triple-gold performance on Saturday, April 12. Otey won the 100m, 200m, and long jump competitions, setting conference-bests in each of the three events.]
