Virginia Softball To Host Maryland In Final Home Games

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia softball team concludes the home portion of its 2003 season Saturday (April 19) when it hosts Maryland in an Atlantic Coast Conference doubleheader at The Park. The first game is scheduled to begin at noon. Saturday’s doubleheader will mark the final home games for Virginia fourth-years Brit Gore (Vienna, Va./James Madison), Johanna Kaiser (Scottsdale, Ariz./Saguaro), Ruby Rojas (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei), and Katie Weinberg (Reston, Va./South Lakes).

Virginia enters the ACC doubleheader against the Terrapins with a 29-20 overall record and a 1-3 mark in the ACC. Maryland stands at 15-13 overall and 0-4 in the conference. The Cavaliers are coming off a twinbill split at Virginia Tech on April 17. UVa lost the first game to the Hokies 6-5, but rebounded to win the nightcap 10-5 in six innings. The Terrapins, who have won their last four games, swept a doubleheader from James Madison on April 16. Maryland won by scores of 4-2 and 1-0 in nine innings.

Gore, Kaiser, Rojas and Weinberg, who will all graduate in May, have helped the Cavaliers post a 153-97 record for an impressive .612 winning percentage during their four-year careers. Over the past four years at home at The Park, UVa has notched a 60-20 mark for a .750 winning percentage.
