Men’s Golf in 7th After 2nd Round of ACC Champs

New London, N.C. – The Virginia men’s golf team dropped down one spot to seventh after two rounds at the ACC Championship on Saturday.

Wake Forest advanced from second to take over the number spot with a 575 (-1). North Carolina dropped from first to second with an even par of 576 while Clemson maintained third with a score of 580 (+4). The Cavaliers shot a 608 (+32).

Individually, Wake Forest’s Bill Haas fired 7 under par with a 137 to keep his first place position. Following in second place is Georgia Tech’s Troy Matteson, Wake Forest’s Brent Wanner, and North Carolina’s Richard Treis, all with a 142 (-3). UNC’s Ramon Bescansa shot a 142 (-2) to round up fifth place.

Cavalier senior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.) moved up to 15th with a score of 148 (+4). Freshman Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) shot a 152 (+8), placing 23rd, while junior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) followed behind by one shot with a 153 (+9) to place 26th. Freshman Eamonn McLoughlin (Amityville, N.Y.) had a 155 (+11) to finish 32nd. Freshman Dan Gabel (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) is in 44th with a score of 165 (+21).

The Cavaliers will finish the final round of the ACC Championship on Sunday, April 20th.
