CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia baseball player Joe Koshansky (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) was named to the 2003 Virginia College Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State Baseball Team as an honorable mention selection. Koshansky, who was also recently named to both the 2003 All-ACC First Team and to the 2003 ACC All-Tournament Team, was the only UVa player named to the 23-man 2003 VaSID All-State Baseball Team.
For the season, Koshansky started all 51 games he appeared in as either a first baseman, designated hitter or pitcher. He batted .320 for the year after recording 57 hits including 10 doubles and a team-high nine home runs and three triples. Koshansky scored 43 runs and drove in 36 RBI while leading the team with a .562 slugging percentage and 388 putouts. On the mound, Koshansky finished the season with a record of 7-2 and a 2.31 ERA. He struck out 54 batters in 58.1 innings of work and held opposing hitters to a .206 batting average.
Virginia Commonwealth’s Paul Keys was named the 2003 VaSID Coach of the Year and James Madison’s Eddie Kim was named the 2003 VaSID Player of the Year.
