CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia has named Danielle Roudebush its first-ever assistant coach of the women’s golf program, UVa head coach Jan Mann announced on Tuesday.

Roudebush will assist Mann in launching Virginia’s women’s golf program as the school’s 25th intercollegiate sport. The team will begin competition this fall.

A 1997 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Roudebush earned a bachelor’s degree in business management. A four-year letterwinner and two-time team captain for Mann’s UNCW squad, she was awarded Scholar Athletic Academic Team and Dean’s List accolades. Roudebush has coached at the Sam Carmichael’s Junior Golf Camp and the Peggy Kirk Bell’s Junior Golf Camp. In 1995, she volunteered at the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf National Championship, hosted by UNCW.

“When Danielle played for me at UNCW, she was the essence of a team player,” Mann said. “I feel confident that Danielle will play a key role in our team development and be a great asset to our program at Virginia.”

Since 1998, Roudebush has worked as a sales support representative for the Acushnet Company, parent company of Titleist and Footjoy, in Fairhaven, Mass.

She will officially begin her duties with the University of Virginia on July 1.

With the addition of women’s golf, Virginia will have 13 intercollegiate sports for women and 12 for men. Golf is one of UVa’s 12 men’s sports. Mann was hired as head coach in June 2002. She signed her first recruiting class during the early signing period last fall.

In August 2001, Athletic Director Craig Littlepage announced the addition of women’s golf. The late William C. Eacho, Jr., and his wife Linda of Bethesda, Md., donated $ 1.4 million to help create an endowment for funding women’s golf scholarships.
