UVa To Host Virginia Sports Turf Managers Association

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The University of Virginia Athletic Department hosts the annual Virginia Sports Turf Managers Association (VSTMA) Field Day activities on Wednesday (July 16). Activities are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at a number of Virginia’s intercollegiate athletic venues, including Davenport Field at the UVa Baseball Stadium, Kl?ckner Stadium and Lannigan Field.

VSTMA’s Field Day activities are open to all professional and amateur field managers in the state, including high school and college coaches. Individuals do not have to be a member of VSTMA to attend.

Anyone interested in attending who has not registered can register on Wednesday between 7:00-8:00 a.m. at the entrance to Kl?ckner Stadium. There is no charge for VSTMA members to attend the Field Day activities. The cost for non-members is $20. Free parking for VSTMA’s Field Day is available in the parking area behind Onesty Hall (where the Cage is located).

Session topics at the VSTMA Field Day include aerification, baseball mound construction and renovation, baseball infield care, soil sampling and soil testing, Bermuda grass management in the transition zone, irrigating sports turf and water management, and artificial turf options for your complex. Among the speakers scheduled to participate are Chad Mulholland, head groundskeeper for the Richmond Braves baseball team; Rodney Hopkins of the Richmond Strikers soccer team; and Dr. Shaun Ashkew and Dr. Eric Ervin of Virginia Tech.
