CHARLOTTESVILLE – The 2003 Virginia women’s soccer team was second in the Atlantic Coast Conference in the annual preseason poll of the league’s coaches. The Cavaliers garnered 52 points and one first-place vote and finished behind just behind defending league champion North Carolina.
The Cavaliers return 16 letterwinners, including nine starters from last season’s team. They are joined by third consecutive top ten recruiting class that Head Coach Steve Swanson and his staff have brought to Virginia.
Last year the Cavaliers finished with a 13-7-2 mark, 4-3 in the ACC, which placed them in a tie for second place. Virginia advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the ninth consecutive season in 2002 and reached the third round for the fourth consecutive season.
The 2003 campaign opens on Saturday, August 30 as the Cavaliers host West Virginia at 1:00 p.m. at Kl?ckner Stadium.
