VIRGINIA TRAVELS TO SOUTH CAROLINA ON SATURDAY: Virginia opened the 2003 season last Saturday with a 27-0 win at home over Duke. The shutout is the Cavaliers’ first since they blanked Duke 24-0 in 1998.

The Gamecocks are coming off a 5-7 season a year ago and opened with a 14-7 win over Louisiana-Lafayette last Saturday at home.

The teams began the home-and-home series last year with Virginia gaining a 34-21 win over the 22nd-ranked Gamecocks in Charlottesville. South Carolina turned the ball over seven times, which the Cavaliers turned into 20 points. Virginia?s defense held the Gamecocks to 261 yards of offense, its lowest total allowed under Groh.

TELEVISION: Saturday’s game is being televised on the Jefferson Pilot SEC Football Network. Dave Neal calls the play-by-play, while Dave Rowe provides the color commentary. Dave Baker is the sideline reporter.

RADIO: All Virginia games are broadcast on the Virginia Sports Network, originating at WINA/WWWV in Charlottesville. Mac McDonald calls the play-by-play. He is joined in the broadcast booth by former Cavalier great Frank Quayle, the 1968 ACC Player of the Year. Jed Williams reports from the sidelines.
