CHARLOTTESVILLE – Third-year defender Gillian Hatch (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) was named this week to both Soccer America and Soccer Buzz’s Team of the Week. Hatch was honored for her play in the season opening 1-0 win over West Virginia. She helped lead the Cavalier defense to the shutout of the Mountaineers before scoring the game’s lone goal in the 87th minute off a 20 yard free kick.
The honor by Soccer Buzz is the second of her career as she was also honored in September of last season. The honor by Soccer America is the first of her career.
The No. 8 (NSCAA)/No. 6 (Soccer America) Cavaliers are off to a 2-0 start and will return to action Friday in Columbus, Ohio against Ohio State (2-0). The game at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium i set for 1:00 p.m.
