Kiawah Island, SC – The Virginia men’s golf team shot a 295 to take hold of second place after the first day of action at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate on Monday.
Sophomore Eamonn McLoughlin (Amityville, N.Y.) paced the Cavaliers with a 73 (+1), leaving him tied for 13th. Senior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) shot a 74 (+2), as did freshman Dan McGurk (Woodlands, Texas) and freshman Mark Perry (Atlanta, Ga.), to put them tied for 23rd. This is the first collegiate event for the two freshmen. Sophomore Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Cavaliers with an 81 (+9).
The University of Mississippi is leading the 14-team field after firing a 292 (+4). Georgia State University and Georgia Southern University are tied for third at 296 (+8). Georgia Southern’s Aron Price is the individual leader after shooting a course-record 65 (-7). Mark Blakefield of Kentucky and Pope Spruiell of Ole Miss are tied for second, each carding a 68(-4).
The Kiawah Island Intercollegiate is being played at Turtle Point Golf Course. Action concludes on Tuesday, Sept. 9
