Men’s Golf Finished Fifth at Kiawah Invite

Kiawah Island, SC – The Virginia men’s golf team shot a 297 (+9) in the second round of the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate on Tuesday, giving the Cavaliers a total of 592 (+16) and a fifth-place finish.

Sophomore Eamonn McLoughlin (Amityville, N.Y.) shot another 73 (+1) to match his first round score and put him in a tie for 14th at 146 (+2). Freshman Dan McGurk (Woodlands, Texas) fired a 73 (+1) of his own, moving him into a tie for 17th with a total of 147 (+3). Senior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) stayed consistent with another 74 (+2). His two-day total of 148 (+4) resulted in a tie for 23rd. Freshman Mark Perry (Atlanta, Ga.) added a 77 (+5), finishing with a total of 151 (+7) and a tie for 32nd. Sophomore Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) came in with a 78 (+6) and a total of 159 (+15), leaving him tied for 59th.

The University of Kentucky made a great comeback, shooting a 282 (-6), to earn the victory with a two-day total of 580 (+4). First round leader Mississippi relinquished its position by shooting a 306 (+18) for a total of 598 (+22) and a tie for eighth. Aron Price of Georgia Southern shot a 70 (-2) to hold his first round lead and take medalist honors with a total of 135 (-9). John Holmes finished second and led Kentucky with a 68 (-4) today and a total of 140 (-4). Peter Laws of Kent State and Kentucky’s Mark Blakefield tied for third at 141 (-3).

Virginia returns to action on Sept. 22-23 at the Mason Rudolph Collegiate in Nashville, Tenn.
