CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia men’s soccer team will host the #2/#3 ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons in a key Atlantic Coast Conference match on Saturday, September 13th at 7:00 PM at UVa’s Kl?ckner Stadium. The Virginia vs. Wake Forest men’s soccer contest will be the first ACC match of the conference schedule played this season.
The Cavaliers enter their match with the Demon Deacons with an overall record of 1-3-0 on the year. Despite having won only one contest in four outings, Virginia has played a tough schedule including matches with #1 UCLA and #13 Saint Louis. UVa posted its first win of the season on September 5th when Virginia recorded a 1-0 shutout victory over the American Eagles in College Park, Md. during the Maryland/adidas Soccer Classic.
Wake Forest enters its match with UVa with an overall record of 3-0-0 overall. The Demon Deacons started the year off with a bang after posting back-to-back wins over ranked opponents in the adidas Classic, a tournament hosted by WFU. Wake Forest defeated #10 Connecticut 2-0 before posting a 3-1 victory over #5 St. John’s. In their last outing a week ago, the Demon Deacons just edged past Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. by the score of 1-0.
Virginia leads the all-time series history with Wake Forest 24-3-4 (.839). Last year (2002), UVa ended #1 ranked WFU’s undefeated season on November 16, 2002 in Cary, N.C. when the Cavaliers toppled the Demon Deacons by the score of 1-0 in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament. Virginia has not lost at home to Wake Forest since a 2-0 setback on September 22, 1991.
