Virginia Volleyball Posts 3-0 Victory Over High Point

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Fourth-year outside hitter Paige Davis (Austin, Texas/Westlake) tallied a match-high 17 kills and the Virginia volleyball team hit an impressive .423 in a 3-0 (30-14, 30-20, 30-23) victory over High Point Friday morning (September 19) in the National Invitational at Davidson’s Belk Arena. With the victory, the Cavaliers improve to 13-0 on the season to extend their program record winning streak. UVa continues play in the tournament with a 3:00 p.m. match against Boise State.

Virginia’s .423 hitting percentage in the match nearly set a season high for the team (UVa hit .433 in a win over Centenary on August 30). The Cavaliers made only 11 hitting errors in the match while connecting for 58 kills on 111 attempts. UVa posted a .514 hitting percentage in the first game. Conversely, High Point hit only .189 in the match with just 36 kills. The Cavaliers also held a 43-37 edge in digs and a 6-0 advantage in service aces.

Davis smashed her 17 kills on just 26 attempts with only two errors for a .577 hitting percentage. Third-year middle Alexis Geocaris (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) posted an impressive .625 hitting percentage with 10 kills and no errors on 16 swings. She also added four blocks and a pair of service aces. First-year outside hitter Lindsay Osco (Rosharon, Texas/Elkins) nearly recorded a double-double with 11 kills and nine digs. Osco hit .417 in the match and also added two aces. Fourth-year middle Shannon Boyle (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) notched a .500 hitting percentage with seven kills.

The first-year setting tandem of Emily Kirkwood (Tampa, Fla./Plant) and Kathleen Branagh (Lafayette, Calif./Campolindo) combined to hand out 48 assists. Kirkwood led the way with 31 assists and contributed six digs and two services as well. Branagh had 17 assists and four digs. First-year outside hitter Emily Perilli (Thompson’s Station, Tenn./Page) registered a career highs of five kills and 10 digs.

Lindsey Pickens led High Point (3-11) with nine kills and eight digs, while Kamarsha Ryan and Heather Brooks both tallied eight kills.
