Virginia Returns to Action After Bye Week: Virginia returns home for the first time in nearly a month this Saturday against Wake Forest. The Cavaliers had a bye week last week, while the Demon Deacons defeated East Carolina, 34-16.

The Cavaliers practiced for three days last week to work on specific areas. Hurricane Isabel didn’t impact the team’s preparations as the days off late in the week were already scheduled.

Wide receiver-turned-quarterback Marques Hagans got Virginia back to the win column with a 59-16 win over Western Michigan in their last game. Despite not playing quarterback in nearly a year, Hagans was nearly flawless. He completed 12 of 20 passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns. He also used his elusiveness and speed to avoid being sacked, while scampering for 68 yards on the ground to give the offense an added dimension.

The Demon Deacons are one of the rising programs in the country. They have a 3-1 record, their best start in four years. They have been ranked as high as 20th this season, but fell out of the polls following a loss to Purdue two weeks ago.

Television: Saturday’s game is being televised regionally by ABC. Tim Brant calls the play-by-play, while Ed Cunningham provides the color commentary. Samantha Ryan is the sideline reporter.

Radio: All Virginia games are broadcast on the Virginia Sports Network, originating at WINA/WWWV in Charlottesville. Mac McDonald calls the play-by-play. He is joined in the broadcast booth by former Cavalier great Frank Quayle, the 1968 ACC Player of the Year. Jed Williams reports from the sidelines.
