GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia men’s soccer player Mike Littlefield (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park, Va.) was named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Player of the Week in men’s soccer. Littlefield, a third-year forward who transferred to UVa from Coastal Carolina, scored two game-winning goals for the Cavaliers on the week to lead Virginia past Mount St. Mary’s (1-0 on September 17th) and #4 North Carolina (1-0 on September 21st). Both of his goals were headers that proved to be the game-winning scores.
Littlefield is the second Virginia men’s soccer players to be recognized by the ACC this season as the Player of the Week. Last week, UVa’s Adam Cristman (Glen Allen, Va./Godwin) gathered the honor.
Prior to last week, Littlefield had not scored a goal through five games into the 2003 for the Cavaliers. However, he came up huge and scored the game-winning goal in both of UVa’s games against Mount St. Mary’s and North Carolina. For the season, Littlefield is currently in a three-way tie for the team lead in points scored (four), goals scored (two) and game-winning goals scored (two).
Littlefield was also recently named to College Soccer News’ National Team of the Week (ending September 21st). Littlefield’s teammate, fourth-year defender Matt Oliver (Waldorf, Md./DeMatha Catholic) was also recently honored by Soccer America and was named to Soccer America’s Team of the Week for week three (September 8-14).
The Cavaliers will resume home action on Wednesday, September 24th when they play host to the William & Mary Tribe at Kl?ckner Stadium beginning at 7:00 PM.
