Box Score

The Virginia Cavaliers (5-3) and the Richmond Spiders (7-1) battled to a 0-0 tie at the break, thanks in part to five saves from Logan Carr (Williamsburg, Va./’Walsingham Academy) and a pair of defensive saves from Erin Hayes (Fort Worth, Texas/Trinity Valley), but the Spiders got the eventual game-winner on a breakaway by Allie Howard halfway through the second period to notch the upset.

The Spiders outshot the Cavalers 8-3 in the first half but were kept off the boards as Carr, Hayes, and Katie Jo Gerfen (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) all notched saves.

In the second half, the Spiders’ Allie Howard dribbled down the right center and rifled a shot that found the boards 12:46 into the period. Her goal stood as the only marker in the game as the Spiders went on to win the contest.

The Cavaliers will next host Old Dominion on Sunday, Sept. 28. Game time against the Lady Monarchs is 1:00 pm.
