Virginia Men’s Tennis Continues Play at UVa Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis team continued play Saturday in the second day of the Virginia Invitational at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers had three players in the quarterfinals of the Flight A draw.

In singles flight A, all three Cavaliers in the quarterfinals fell to higher seeds. No. 5-8 seed Rylan Rizza (Rancho Plaos Verdes, Calif.) fell to No. 1-2 seed Izak van der Merwe of Old Dominion. Stephen Rozek (Chadron, Ohio) and Marko Miklo (Bratislava, Slovakia), who upset seeded players on Friday, could not pull upsets Saturday of No. 3-4 seeds Jeffrey Kader of William & Mary and David Lingman of Harvard.

In doubles play, the Cavalier team of Rizza and Nick Meythaler (Owensboro, Ky.) defeated Andrew Hamar and Andrew Simpson of Wake Forest in the quarterfinals before falling to Zoltan Csanadi and van der Merwe of Old Dominion in the semifinals.

The tournament concludes Sunday as play begins at 9:00 a.m..
