CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia women’s soccer second-year midfielder Kelly Hammond (Bowie, Md.) earned a pair of national honors this week as she was named to both the Soccer America Team of the Week and the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week.
On Friday, Hammond led the Cavaliers to a 7-0 win at NC State in Virginia’s ACC opener. The win was the Cavaliers’ most lopsided conference win since 1994 and extended Virginia’s win streak to five. Hammond started the scoring in the seventh minute and finished the game with a career-high two goals and five points.
The honor from Soccer America is the second for Hammond this season, as she was also recognized on September 16 for helping the Cavaliers to the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic title. The honor from Soccer Buzz is the first of Hammond’s career.
For the season, Hammond leads the Cavaliers with seven goals, 18 points, and five game-winning goals.
Hammond and the No. 5/4 Cavaliers (8-1-1, 1-0 ACC) will return to action this weekend as they host Florida State Saturday night. Game time for UVa’s ACC home opener at Kl?ckner Stadium is 7:00 p.m.
