Oct. 2, 2003
The Cavalier women’s lacrosse team opens up its fall schedule with a scrimmage against William & Mary on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 7:30. In March of 2003, these two teams met after the original February date was postponed due to inclement weather. In that game, Cary Chasney scored 7 goals and Amy Appelt added six goals and three assists as Virginia defeated William & Mary 21-6. The game was also the 100th career win for Virginia head coach Julie Myers.
The Cavaliers, who played in the NCAA final game in May of 2003, return eight starters from that team, including both Appelt and Chasney. While all three line defenders from the 2003 team are gone due to graduation, Virginia’s keeper from the last two years, Andrea Pfeiffer, is back in the cage for the Hoos.
The scrimmage will feature two former teammates on the sidelines as both Myers and Tara (Kelly) Brown are Virginia graduates. Brown and Myers won an NCAA title as teammates at Virginia in 1991. Myers was an assistant coach while Brown was a fourth-year in 1993 as Virginia won a second NCAA title.
The game will be played on Virginia’s University Hall Turf Field.
