Today’s Game: The Cavaliers open the ACC home season tonight as they host Florida State in a matchup of two of the nation’s hottest teams. Virginia enters the weekend on a six game win streak. During that stretch, the Wahoos have scored 20 goals and only allowed two.
Florida State has rebounded from a 1-4 start to win five straight. The Seminoles, ranked No. 21 by Soccer America, are coming off their first shutout of the season, a 3-0 win at South Florida on Wednesday.
All-Time Series: Today marks the 11th all-time meeting between the Cavaliers and the Seminoles. Virginia holds a 9-0-1 advantage in the all-time series and is the only ACC school that FSU has never defeated. Last season, Virginia won 2-1 in Tallahassee as Darci Borski and Kelly Hammond scored first half goals. The tie in the series came at the 2001 ACC Tournament in a game that Florida State advanced to the finals on penalty kicks.
National Polls: The Cavaliers are ranked a season-high in the each of the four women’s soccer polls. Virginia is ranked No. 5 in the nation by the NSCAA, Soccer Buzz, and Soccer Times and No. 4 in the nation by Soccer America. In addition, Virginia is No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the NSCAA and Soccer Buzz.
