Women’s Golf Tied for Fifth at Wildcat Invite

LEXINGTON, KY – The Virginia women’s golf team stands in a tie for fifth place after shooting a 318 (+30) in the first round of the Wildcat Fall Invitational.

The Cavaliers were led by freshman Sally Shonk (Nobelsville, Ind.), whose round of 76 (+4) put her in a tie for seventh place overall. Freshman Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) tied for 12th with a 78 (+6). Freshman Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) came in with an 81 (+9) to tie for 24th. Freshman Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) added an 83 (+11), as she tied for 40th. Freshman Kira Mayo (Aventura, Fla.) rounded out the scoring with an 89 (+17) and a tie for 87th.

Mississippi State holds the overall lead after shooting a 309 (+21). Vanderbilt came in second with a 311 (+23), and UNC-Wilmington rounded out the top three with a 316 (+28). Marissa Muir of Kentucky shot a 73 (+1) to take the individual lead. Mississippi State’s Natalie Booth is in second after a 74 (+2). Four players are tied for third at 75 (+3).

Play at the Wildcat Fall Invitational will resume Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. at the University Club of Kentucky.
