CHAPEL HILL, NC – The Virginia men’s golf team shot a 310 (+22) in the second round of the Franklin Street Partners Invitational (+19), giving the Cavaliers a two-day score of 617 (+41) and a ninth place standing.
Senior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) moved into a tie for 19th place after shooting a 76 (+4). Sophomore Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) tied for 26th after shooting a 76 (+4) of his own. Junior Kevin O?Connell (Potomac, Md.) shot an 80 (+8), which dropped him into a tie for 29th. Sophomore Craig Cook-Stevenson (Sutton-Coldfield, Eng.) came in with a 78 (+6) to put him in a tie for 33rd. Freshman Mark Perry (Atlanta, Ga.) found himself in 38th place, after an 82 (+10).
Host North Carolina held its overall lead, shooting a 298 (+10). Georgia Southern is in second after a 299 (+11). Kentucky rounded out the top three with a 299 (+11). Toshi Hirata of Georgia Southern shot a 72 (E) to remain in first place. Alabama’s Lars Brovold shot a 70 (-2) to leap into a tie for second with Ted Smith of North Carolina, who shot a 75 (+3).
Action will resume at Finley Golf Course Sunday at 9:15 a.m.
