LEXINGTON, KY – The Virginia women’s golf team shot a 326 (+38) in the final round of the Wildcat Fall Invitational. The Cavaliers’ three-day total of 964 (+100) put them in a tie for seventh place.
Freshman Sally Shonk (Nobelsville, Ind.) led the Cavaliers with a total score of 236 (+20) to tie for 13th. Freshman Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) led the Cavaliers on Sunday with an 80 (+8), which put her in a tie for 19th at 238 (+22). Freshman Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) finished in a tie for 24th with a 239 (+23). Freshman Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) tied for 70th with a score of 254 (+38). Freshman Kira Mayo (Aventura, Fla.) came in 80th with a score of 257 (+41).
Vanderbilt jumped ahead of Mississippi to take the championship at 926 (+62). Mississippi finished in second with a score of 941 (+77). UNC-Wilmington shot a 946 (+82) to come in third. Louisville’s Meghan Little and Vanderbilt’s Chris Brady tied for first at 227 (+11), but Little won the playoff to claim medallist honors. Amanda Mathis of Mississippi finished third with a score of 228 (+12).
The Cavaliers return to action October 19-21 at the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate in Knoxville, Tenn.
