CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Virginia men’s tennis second year Doug Stewart (Malibu, Calif.) fell to No. 6 seeded Michael Kogan of Tulane in Friday’s round of 16 of the Icy Hot/ITA All-America Championships in Chattanooga. Stewart was the first Cavalier since Brian Vahaly in 2000 to reach the round of 16 at the prestigous event.

Stewart, ranked No. 26 nationally, took an early lead in the match when he won the first set 6-4 from the No. 6 ranked Kogan. However, Kogan would rally to win the second set in a tiebreaker, 10-8. Kogan would take that momentum into the third set, which he won 6-4 to defeat Stewart.

The Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships are held annually and is the first of three annual national tournaments conducted by the ITA. After five days of qualifying matches, the 64-player main draw started Thursday. The main draw features 36 of the top 40 players in the ITA preseason singles rankings.
