KNOXVILLE, TN – The Virginia women’s golf team shot a 327 (+39) to stand in 17th place after the first round of the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate.

Freshman Sally Shonk (Nobelsville, Ind.), freshman Rachel Smith (Powell, Tenn.) and freshman Leah Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) each shot an opening-round 79 (+7) to tie for 58th place. Freshman Lindsay Robinson (Huntington, W.V.) and freshman Kira Mayo (Aventura, Fla.) are tied in 86th place after each shot a first-round 90 (+18).

The Swedish Junior National team is tied with Oklahoma State for the overall team lead at 291 (+3). Ohio State and Tulane University shot 296 (+8) to tie for third place. Pemilla Lindberg of Sweden is the individual leader after her first-round 70 (-2). Five players are tied for second at 71 (-1).

Play continues at Fox Den Country Club Monday at 8:30 a.m.
