Virginia’s McGavock Dunbar, the defending ACC champion in the 800m run, won that same event at the Virginia Tech Invitational today held in Blacksburg, Va with a 1:53.79, his best of the season. He also took fourth in the 1000m run with a 2:28.64. Teammate Kellen Blassingame turned in the top collegiate time in the 500m run, taking second place in the meet. On the women’s side, the high jump duo of Rachel Marks and Meggie Schuelke both jumped 1.64m to tie for third. Mike Riso also took third for the Cavaliers in the high jump in the men’s division. Caroline Harvey took fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.70m, while teammate Whitney Marsh finished seventh with a 5.48m. Harvey also competed in the finals of the 60m dash and took seventh with her 7.77. Her time of 7.70 yesterday was the fastest collegiate time and was a Virginia season best.
Virginia’s women’s distance medley, made up of four first-years, Angie Saterstad, Janine Ricci, Huma Husain and Whitney Marsh, took fourth in that event with a 12:01.53. The women’s 1600m relay team finished sixth overall with a 3:53.36. Pole vaulters Alicia LaRoche and Kathryn Pettine also turned in season-best performances with vaults of 3.35m, equalling the top Cavalier pole vault of 2004 en route to fourth and fifth place finishes, respectively. Erin Crawford also turned in a season-best time in both the 400m and 500m runs, turning in a 1:15.24 in the 500, which was the second college athlete across the line. Ashley Gore’s 200m run was a season-best for the Cavaliers.
Isi Azeke led the Cavaliers in both the 60m dash and the 60m hurdles. Azeke and teammate Devin Canaday both qualified for the semifinals in the short hurdles where Azeke turned in a season-best 8.26. His 7.20 in the dash was also a Cavalier-best time for 2004. David Sullivan took sixth in the long jump with a 6.87m, Virginia’s longest jump this year.
Cavalier assistant coaches Kiamesha Otey and Carielle Doe both competed in the 200m dash with Otey taking 6th with a 24.58 and Doe finishing 8th with a 24.86.
