TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Nate Johnson scored eight points during an 11-0 runto open the second half, a burst that helped carry Florida State past Virginia76-57 on Tuesday night.
Alexander Johnson had 16 points and Adam Waleskowski added 15 for theSeminoles (18-8, 6-6 Atlantic Coast Conference), who tied a school record withtheir 15th home win of the season.
Nate Johnson scored all 13 of his points in the second half for FloridaState, which moved into a three-way tie for third place in the ACC. The gamewas tied at 27 at halftime, before he sandwiched two 3-pointers around anotherjumper to start the second-half spurt.
Elton Brown had 16 points and a game-high seven rebounds for Virginia(13-10, 3-9), which lost to Florida State for just the fourth time in the last11 meetings between the schools.
Brown shot 7-for-10 for the Cavaliers, but the rest of his teammatescombined to shoot only 13-for-45 (28.9 percent).
Virginia was within three at one point in the second half, and trailed just49-45 following Gary Forbes’ 3-pointer with 9:40 remaining.
Florida State answered with an 11-2 run over the next 4:15, pushing themargin to 60-47 and maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.
The Seminoles shot only 34.4 percent from the floor in the first half, butshot 71.4 percent after halftime and finished the game at 49.1 percent overall.
Virginia was held to 36.4 percent shooting for the game.
