CHARLOTTESVILLE – Todd Billet and the University of Virginia men’s basketball team, in conjunction with the University of Virginia Health System, Virginia Blood Services and the National Marrow Donor Program, are sponsoring the second annual Bone Marrow Registration and Blood Drive on March 2. The event is scheduled from 12:00-4:00 p.m. in the football meeting room of UVa’s McCue Center.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate, however there is a need for more minority marrow donors. For that reason, a federal grant is available to cover the initial typing fee for minorities. Limited contributions are available to cover the $65 cost for non-minority donors, but confirmation must be received by calling the number below prior to screening. On site screening for non-minority donors on March 2 may require payment of the cost for testing.
There is no charge for anyone wishing to donate blood.
Individuals with specific questions about the bone marrow registration process or who are interested in pre-registering should call 1-800-989-4438 and ask for JoAnn Malone (ext. 4162) or Sylvia Wallace (ext. 4184).
The Virginia men’s basketball team plays Wake Forest University at 7:00 p.m. on March 2.
