CHARLOTTESVILLE – University of Virginia rower Jennifer Reck (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) has been selected to the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) Academic All-District III University Division Women’s At-Large Second Team. Reck is one of 10 student-athletes named to the second team. Ten individuals were also named to the first-team.
Reck, a member of Virginia’s first varsity eight crew for four years, is a two-time first-team All-America selection and a three-time All-South Region selection by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA). She is also a two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) selection and was a member of the ACC’s 50th Anniversary Women’s Rowing Team. Virginia’s first varsity eight won that event at the ACC Championships in each of her four years with the crew and was named the ACC Crew of the Year the last three years. Reck was a member of UVa first varsity eights at four NCAA Championships (5th in that event in 2003, 9th in 2004, 10th in 2002 and 15th in 2001).
A commerce major, Reck received a 2004 Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Award and the Jettie Hill Memorial Award as the senior female athlete at Virginia with the highest cumulative grade point average through four years. She is a three-time National Scholar Athlete selection by the CRCA and the recipient of one of Virginia’s ACC Outstanding Scholar Athlete Awards for the 2003-04 academic year.
To be nominated for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career. No athlete is eligible until he/she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing in his/her career. District III consists of schools from the states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
