Virginia’s Joe Koshansky Named To 2004 Louisville Slugger All-American Second Team By Collegiate Baseball

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia baseball player Joe Koshansky (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly), the 2004 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, was named to the 2004 Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American Second Team by the staff of Collegiate Baseball today. Koshansky, a fourth-year starting first baseman/left-handed pitcher for the Cavaliers, has been enjoying a banner-type season. He has also been named First Team All-ACC and was honored as the ACC Player of the Week (twice) and as the ACC Player of the Week (once) for a combined three times earlier this season.

Koshansky has started all 55 games this season for Virginia as either a pitcher of first baseman. He serves as one of UVa’s weekend starters in the pitching rotation. Koshansky has made 14 starts on the mound and has pitched 93.2 innings en route to posting a record of 7-3 with a 3.07 ERA while striking out 76 batters (second on the team). He is holding opposing batters to a .228 batting average and has pitched one complete game this year .

Koshansky is also batting .301 (third on the team) at the plate with 62 hits including a team-high 15 home runs, 17 doubles (first on the team) and one triple. He leads the team with 64 RBI, scored 46 runs and has racked up a team-high 126 total bases. Koshansky also stands 8-for-9 in stolen base attempts.

Koshansky has helped guide Virginia to its best regular season record ever (42-11) and to its best ACC finish ever (18-6). He helped pace UVa to five, three-game ACC series sweeps over conference foes for the first time in school-history and has helped guide Virginia to its first ever home NCAA Regional and to only its fourth ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
