Virginia’s Inge Jorgensen, the reigning ACC Champion in the javelin, shook off the effects of a lengthy rain delay to throw 158′ 11″ in the javelin on her second toss and advance to the finals of the NCAA javelin throw today in rainy Austin, Texas. A 2001 All-American, Jorgensen did not compete in 2002 or 2003 but has returned to competition this year in which she won the ACC title and the NCAA East Regional title. Jorgensen threw her personal-best throw this year with her 177′ 10″ at the Georgia Tech Invitational, which placed her fourth in the nation among collegians this year. Going into the finals, Jorgensen ranks fifth after the preliminary rounds, just 15 inches out of third place.
Virginia’s Kellen Blassingame was scheduled to compete in the 400m dash, but inclement weather has postponed the preliminary rounds to Thursday, June 10.
