ATLANTA, Ga. – Virginia women’s basketball head coach Debbie Ryan has been re-elected to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s (WBCA) Board of Directors, the WBCA announced on Tuesday.
Elected for a consecutive three-year term, Ryan is returning as the NCAA Division I East Representative. Three newcomers also joined the Board- Jackie DeVane (Monmouth), Dianne Nolan (Fairfield), and Gie Parsons (Clarion).
“We are extremely pleased to have these individuals serve on our Board of Directors,” said Wendy Larry, WBCA President and head coach at Old Dominion University. “With these additions and the return of Coach Ryan, the Board will gain further insight and continue to be a fervent voice for the WBCA membership and the sport of women’s basketball.”
The WBCA Board of Directors manages all business and affairs of the association. To be eligible for election to the Board of Directors, candidates shall be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and shall have maintained at least two consecutive years of Active membership (associate membership for high school coaches) in the WBCA, and at the time of their nomination or appointment to the Board of Directors, shall be active (associate) members in good standing; and who shall remain in good standing on the date of election and through their term on the Board of Directors.
Founded in 1981, the WBCA promotes women’s basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as an amateur sport for women and girls.
