Virginia Football Ranked No. 16 in AP Preseason Poll

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Cavalier football team is ranked No. 16 in the Associated Press preseason writers’ poll released today. This is the second year in a row Virginia has been ranked in the coaches’ preseason poll; last season UVa was ranked 18th in the preseason rankings.

Virginia faces four teams ranked in the preseason Top 25- No. 5 Florida State, No. 6 Miami, No. 15 Clemson, and No. 22 Maryland. In addition, Georgia Tech, NC State, and Virginia Tech are among the unranked teams receiving votes.

Virginia head coach Al Groh welcomes back 16 starters from last season’s 8-5 squad. The Cavaliers, who were picked to finish third in the ACC by media attending the ACC Kickoff, open the season at Temple on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field. ESPN2 will televise the game, beginning at Noon.
