CHARLOTTESVILLE – The University of Virginia athletics department and Cavalier Sports Marketing announced Monday (August 16) the creation of a new half-hour television show, Cavalier Sports Weekly. The program will consist of game highlights and features that tell the compelling stories of University of Virginia student-athletes and coaches as they strive to meet department, team and individual goals.
“We hope the ever-growing Virginia fan base is as excited about Cavalier Sports Weekly as we are in the athletics department,” said Todd Goodale, Virginia’s director of video services. “This program will not be a typical coach’s show. Instead, Cavalier Sports Weekly will provide the opportunity to highlight our best athletics stories. It will focus on the University of Virginia’s broad-based athletics program, providing exclusive behind-the-scenes video as well as actual game and event footage.”
Bryan King, a 2004 graduate of Virginia, recently joined the staff of Cavalier Sports Marketing as editor/producer of Cavalier Sports Weekly.
Cavalier Sports Weekly debuts Sunday, Sept. 5, on what is currently a five-station network, with coverage across Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., on Comcast SportsNet. Thirty-one different programs will be produced with the last show scheduled to air April 17, 2005. Cavalier Sports Weekly will not air on December 26 or January 2. The host of the program will rotate among Virginia’s student-athletes and coaches on a weekly basis. A limited number of sponsorship opportunities are still available.
“Cavalier Sports Weekly is a project we have discussed for several years,” said Brock Petrie, general manager of Cavalier Sports Marketing. “This program will provide our sponsors with visibility across the state and region. Through commercials and weekly feature elements, our advertisers will be able to present their message and associate their brand with University of Virginia Athletics.”
