SCHINIAS, Greece – Wyatt Allen, a 2001 graduate of the University of Virginia, is a member of the United States’ men’s eight crew that has advanced to the Olympic finals in that event. The finals will be held on Sunday (August 22).
The U.S. crew advanced directly to the finals by edging Canada by 61-hundredths of a second to win a preliminary heat in a world record time of 5:19.85 on August 15. Canada is the current World Champion and had not lost a race since 2001.
Allen is from Portland, Maine, and rowed with the Virginia men’s club team from 1998-2001. After graduating from UVa, he competed in the Under-23 World Championships in 2001 and 2002, and in the 2003 World Championships.
