CHARLOTTESVILLE – The 2004 Virginia women’s soccer team was ranked No. 7 in Soccer America’s preseason top 25 rankings, released Friday. It marks the fourth consecutive season that the Cavaliers have been ranked in the top ten in the publication’s preseason rankings.
The Cavaliers are one of four ACC teams ranked in the top 12 of the poll. Defending ACC and NCAA Champion North Carolina is No. 1, while Florida State and Clemson were No. 5 and No. 12 respectively. Two of Virginia’s 2004 non-conference opponents, UCLA and West Virginia, were also ranked, placing No. 10 and No. 24 respectively.
Virginia, which earned a No. 13 ranking in Soccer Buzz’s preseason rankings earlier in the week, will open the season on Friday August 27 as it hosts East Carolina at Klöckner Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
