No. 8 Virginia Men’s Soccer To Face South Carolina In Preseason Exhibition Match On Thursday

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 8 ranked University of Virginia men’s soccer team will travel to Columbia, S.C. to face the South Carolina Gamecocks in an exhibition match on Thursday, August 26th at 7:00 PM. The match is UVa’s final preseason contest before the Cavaliers begin the regular season portion of their 2004 schedule by hosting the Virginia Soccer Classic on September 3rd and 5th at Klockner Stadium.

Virginia will be facing South Carolina for the second consecutive year in an exhibition match. Last season, the Cavaliers and Gamecocks battled to a scoreless tie on August 23, 2003 in Charlottesville, Va. Virginia leads the all-time series history with South Carolina with a record of 3-1-1 in five official meetings.

UVa enters the 2004 season ranked No. 8 in the country according to the College Soccer News’ Top-30 preseason poll and No. 20 in the nation according to the NSCAA/adidas Top-25 preseason poll. The men’s soccer rankings for Soccer America have not yet been released.
