ATHENS, Greece – Former Cavalier All-American Angela Hucles is a member of the United States Olympic Women’s Soccer team that won the gold medal with a 2-1 overtime win over Brazil on Thursday. The U.S., coached by former Virginia head coach April Heinrichs, captured the gold medal for the second time, having also won the Olympic tournament in 1996.

Hucles, a native of Virginia Beach, is still Virginia’s all-time leading scorer. A mainstay of the U.S. National team since 2002, she has made over 30 international appearances for her country.

In Greece, Hucles came off the bench in two games as the United States posted a perfect 6-0 record at the games.

Hucles joins rower Wyatt Allen as Virginia alumni to win gold at the Athens Games. Last week, Allen was a member of the United States men’s eight crew, which won that event for the first time since 1964.
