Today’s Game: The Virginia Cavaliers conclude their three-game season-opening homestand Wednesday as they host intrastate foe Liberty. The Cavaliers are looking to open the season with three consecutive shutouts for just the second time in history (UVa opened the 1987 season with three shutouts).
Virginia kicked off the season last weekend with a pair of 4-0 wins over East Carolina and Miami. The Cavaliers outshot their opponents by a combined 41-3 margin in those games.
Tonight marks the season opener for the Flames. Last season, Liberty went 4-12-1, 4-2-1 in the Big South. They were second in the 2004 Big South preseason poll.
All-Time Series: Today marks the fourth all-time meeting between the Cavaliers and the Flames. Virginia has won the first three meetings, all at home, by a combined 16-0 score, including a 6-0 win last season.
Cavaliers Seek 100th Win at Klöckner: After the Cavaliers’ two home wins the start the season, Virginia is 99-29-10 all-time at Klöckner Stadium. The program has a 34-8-4 record under Steve Swanson at home. The Cavaliers are undefeated in their last 13 home games against non-conference opponents at home (10-0-3) since a 2-1 loss to West Virginia in 2002.
