CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia men’s soccer team is set to host the 2004 Virginia Soccer Classic at Klockner Stadium on September 3rd and 5th. The tournament will be the season-opening event for the Cavaliers, as they welcome the Marshall Thundering Herd, the Maryland Terrapins and the Long Island Blackbirds to Charlottesville.
Virginia enters the event ranked in four preseason polls. UVa is listed No. 8 by College Soccer News, No. 11 by Soccer America, No. 13 by Soccer Times and No. 20 in the NSCAA/adidas Preseason Polls.
The Cavaliers are 13-1-0 all-time against the Thundering Herd and stand 1-1-0 all-time against the Blackbirds. The Cavaliers will not face the Terrapins in the event.
The Virginia Soccer Classic is a four-team tournament field featuring two games on Friday, September 3rd and two contests on Sunday, September 5th. UVa is schedule to face Marshall on Friday at 7:30 PM and Long Island on Sunday at 2:00 PM. Maryland and Long Island will meet on Friday at 5:00 PM and Marshall and Maryland will play on Sunday at noon.
